Pinecrest: We Thrive
The book “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt has inspired me to reflect on the virtues of living in Pinecrest and how a thriving community enhances our quality of life and promotes the well-being of our loved ones.
Continuing to enhance our quality of life requires having a plan that mitigates challenges to our community and amplifies its strengths.
Challenges To Our Community
Traffic: Traffic breeds more traffic. I’ve shared a detailed blog post on this topic, sparking conversations about root causes and actionable solutions to protect serenity in Pinecrest.
Speeding: People drive as fast as they are comfortable. Besides continuing to take effective speed enforcement actions, there are innovations in street design that we can implement to discourage speeding.
Pollution: Protecting our waterways and land from pollution, maintaining high air quality, reducing noise levels, and preventing the spread of invasive plant and animal species ensure that none have the potential to ruin a beautiful day in Pinecrest and safeguard our environment for future generations.
Amplifying Our Strengths
Spaces to Connect: Local dining, shopping, events, community programs, and beautiful parks are vital. These spaces draw us out of our homes and screens and help us connect with the broader Pinecrest community. There’s always more we can do, and we will.
Village Character: Pinecrest’s charm lies in its vast, inviting green spaces and tree-lined streets. Preserving these areas is vital to maintaining our Village’s unique identity.
Public Schools: Our schools have always been a cornerstone of our community. Supporting them to ensure that they remain top-tier keeps Pinecrest attractive to families.
Neighborhood Watch Groups: Thanks to Captain Cruz and our Pinecrest Police Department, and to many residents like you, our Neighborhood Watch Groups have been a resounding success. Expanding their reach presents an opportunity to enhance safety, reconnect with our most immediate neighbors, and over time maybe even develop the confidence to let our kids play on our streets again.
Biking and Walking: Providing safe, accessible options for biking and walking for all residents, younger and older, encourages an active lifestyle and brings neighbors closer. It’s a lot easier to wish someone “Good Morning” when you are on a bike or walking.

Your Thoughts
Our recent resident survey highlights these priorities associated with safeguarding our community, aligning with the feedback I’ve received in conversations across the Village. If something that you care about isn’t mentioned here or if you simply want to express your support, I’d love to hear from you.
